Long Island, Bahamas in November
Best performing flies were Pink Puffs & Bonefish Biters hook size 8 & 6 SimRam size 10-2,
Tan Puff size 8-4, Turneffe Crab size 6-2, Bonefish Bitters size 10-6,
Bahama Mama size 6-2. All patterns in different colour variations, and also with RUBBER LEGS! Anything with rubberlegs will catch a Bonefish. It is also important to do variations in weight. I believe that at the end of the day colour and weight is more important than the pattern.

Falkland Islands |
I tend to use shrimp like patterns, variations of the Ally’s shrimp. I had a small shrimp fly tied by an Irish gentleman similar to the Arrow shrimp dark red, double hook size 12, this would catch fish anywhere around the Falklands all year round from 1 – 10lb (0.5 – 5Kg).
I like to fish for Sea trout which seem to be quiet wild and can fight like salmon and do taste similar. My last sea trout only 3Kg went off so fast that I managed to catch my fingers on the spinning reel handle, a lesson learned. We also catch a fish locally called a mullet which is very similar to sea bass, these take almost any fly and put up a very hard fight. These can grow up to 8Kg and if you hook one that big it’s a good 30 minutes to land with hard fast runs up to 100m. We have a lot of squid around the shores thus I look forward to trying your patterns, will let you know I can catch Sea trout on them, I know mullet will take them readily.
