NATIONAL ROD LICENCE
Anyone over the age of 12 years or over who fishes for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England and Wales must have an Environment Agency Fishing Licence. They are available from every Post Office in England and Wales. Telephone sales phone number 0870 1662662. One day Licence for trout cost £2.75, eight day Licence costs £7.00 and a full year Licence cost £22.00. One day Licence for Salmon and Sea Trout cost £6.00, eight day Licence costs £18.00 and a full year Licence cost £61.00. There are discounts for those who receive a war pension, under 17 years,  65 years or over, or on incapacity benefit. Failure to produce a licence when fishing can result in fines up to £2,500.00

If you want somewhere to stay that has free fly fishing on the famous river Avon in the south of England their is a fantastic holiday site in the picturesque New Forest. The complex is called 'Sandy Balls Holiday Centre' You can camp or stay in a first class log cabin in the middle of the woods. The site has a resturant, pub, health centre gym, adventure playground for the children, food shop and two swimming pools. The River Avon flows through the estate and is at the bottom of a large embankment. Fishing is free to residents. The holiday center is very popular so book as far in advance as possible. I keep on getting asked where is the best place to go fishing for salmon in Scotland without breaking the bank. The River Tweed and other better known rivers can run to many hundreds of pounds per day for some of the famous beats. There are many lesser known rivers that offer great value and just as much fun, if not greater opportunity of catching fish. Some of these rivers have greater salmon return rates than the more famous rivers and cost only £25 to £60 a rod per day. The fishing season in Scotland starts very early in February on many of the rivers. Some even start in January. March is the start of the main salmon runs but you should remember that most fish are caught in summer and Autumn/Fall
